Dealing With Fleas - Naturally

Fleas are an overwhelming problem down here in Florida and there a number of LESS toxic things that people do to help control them.

1. Diet - A Pet on a high quality diet seems to have less fleas.

2. Garlic and B1 (thiamine) in the diet seem to help in many cases. There are also commercial supplements that contain these items.

3. A number of people use Avon Skin So Soft in the rinse water to help repel fleas (and mosquitoes in the Everglades)

4. Special borax compounds on the floors. We have used a company called Fleabusters for years with no ill effects. They also sell the compound to use yourself. There are always concerns about using chemical compounds around animals and children so be cautious with anything you use that remains on your floors or carpets.

5. There are Nematode Sprays that act as a form of biological control and can help a great deal. I have also had success with diatomaceous earth (FOOD GRADE, not the kind for swimming pool filters) spread around the yard. We use a garden spreader.

6. Animals that are or have been treated Homeopathically for their deeper problems (constitutional) seem to have less fleas.

7. There are herbal dips, shampoos and sprays by companies like Halo that I have found to be effective. Be very careful what you use on cats, they are VERY sensitive to many things.
